Rational Pitch Notation

Rational Pitch Notation is a method of notating exact ratios of non-tempered musical intervals, using numerical alterations to standard western musical notation. In Rational Pitch Notation, the traditional notes and accidentals are used to represent an infinite progression of just perfect fifths. Any sharp / flat added to a note will raise / lower the pitch by one Pythagorean apotome. To notate intervals beyond this 3-limit just intonation, prime numbers, representing specific comma-alterations, are added above / below the accidentals, to raise / lower the pitch:

= the number 5 alters the pitch by one syntonic comma.

= the number 7 alters the pitch by one septimal comma.

= the number 11 alters the pitch by one undecimal comma.

= the number 13 alters the pitch by one tridecimal comma.

= the number 17 alters the pitch by one septendecimal comma.

= the number 19 alters the pitch by one undevicesimal comma.

= the number 23 alters the pitch by one vicesimortertial comma.

= the number 29 alters the pitch by one vicesimononal comma.

= the number 31 alters the pitch by one tricesoprimal comma.
